Q&A

Why Polyurethane and not Polystyrene or wood?

Polyurethane does not crumble, does not deteriorate with age and provides exceptional thermal stability.

It's non-toxic, anti-fungal and is non-moulding.

It is neutral to bees and is disliked by mice.

Sections fit tightly to each other and keep ants and spiders away.

Lifespan?

Our oldest samples have been in the field since 2015! They have been transported, handled and moved multiple times with zero damage, no deterioration and no crumbling.

Are they shipped flat-packed?

No. Our hives are manufactured in whole section. This adds to strength and ease of use.

Hives are packed and shipped in cartons of 59cm * 47cm *  73cm and weigh 12kg.

Can they be transported?

Yes. Since they are made in whole sections, multiple hives can be stacked on top of each other, ratchet tie-down them and off you go.

Density Value?

120 kg/m3, which is a high density, rigid foam.

Interchangeable with wooden hives?

Yes. NuHive top, bottom and feeder sections can be used with wooden Full Depth hives.

Theft Control?

Nuhive hives have a small internal cavity designed to fit a GPS tracker.

How did we start?

Company was started by Valery Yashaev. He's been in beekeeping since 1970's, originally in Uzbekistan USSR, and now in Melbourne, Australia.

Having used 1000's of standard wooden hives and knowing their limitations, after trying polyurethane back in USSR, he made a complete switch from wooden hives and once in Australia pursued his dream of manufacturing and customising hives from beekeepers point of view.
